shirts that read: "R.I.P. Tabb." But to paraphrase legendary scribe Mark Twain, reports of the Tigers' death are have been greatly exaggerated.
Sure, the Tigers entered the 2008 season opener looking to replace two powerful 1,000-yard running backs, but the guys taking their place are pretty good, too. And a whole bunch of young defenders stepped into starring roles as the Tigers pummeled the Clippers 28-7.
Corey Patrick led the Tigers' rushing game with 128 yards on eight carries. Patrick turned the corner on two pitchouts for touchdown runs of 58 and 55 yards.
"We know we're not as powerful as last year, but we feel that we have enough speed to make up for it," Patrick said.
The Tigers (1-0) passed sparingly but effectively. Sean Case completed 5 of 10 passes for 103 yards, including touchdown strikes of 17 and 39 yards.

What began as a battle between county rivals turned into a coming out party for the newest kid on the block.
The upstart Lady Generals of Heritage walked into the Ware-Jewell Activities Center in Chickamauga on Tuesday evening and walked out with a pair of wins over two established Walker County volleyball programs to keep their modest unbeaten streak intact.
Heritage, which opened the season with wins over Cedartown and Sonoraville, moved to 4-0 by rallying past Ridgeland, 19-25, 25-12, 16-14, and Gordon Lee, 17-25, 26-24, 25-18.
The opening match of the night saw the Lady Trojans pick up their first win of the season with a 25-20, 25-21 victory over the Lady Panthers.
But it was Heritage that stole the show.

Jeffersonville, IN - Even though there was some confusion when the Lady Devil's arrived at North Harrison, having to play at 6 instead of 7:30, the Varsity showed up ready to play! The first half was a slow one. The girls on the field looked good. We controlled the ball for the majority of the half. There were lots of shots, we just couldn't find the net.
During the second half, we showed up on the pitch even more ready to play! The first goal was scored by #18, Junior, Rebecca Kitchen from a great shot just inside the box. Then in a scruff inside the box, just in front of the goal, #8 Susan DiTeresa (Sophmore) got her foot on a rebound. Later, #13, Defender, Rochelle Thomas (Sophmore) got a great shot off from just about the center line, and up and over the goalies head, it found the back of the net! WOW! Also during the game, #3 Shelby West and #6 Bekah Burgan, both Freshmen, were able to place one of their many shots into the net to end the game at 5 to 0.
Both goalies, Becky & Jordan, played very well. Our defense showed great determination in getting the ball to the Devil's end of the field and the offense did well trying to keep the ball there! Great job girls!
Communication was lost somewhere and when the Lady Devil's JV squad arrived they found that North Harrison did not have a JV team. Thanks to Bill Gordon and the two little brothers volunteering to referee, the JV squad did get to play two 20 minute halves as a scrimmage. Unfortunately the scorers were not kept track of, but the Devil's won 3-0. Way to go girls!

East Hartford, CT - Celebrate! This was the theme of the 2008 YMCA National Championships in College Park, MD. And celebrate is exactly what the 17 members of the LEHY Swim Team did as they wrapped up a very successful week of swimming.
The atmosphere on the deck of the University of Maryland pool was exciting, the cheering was deafening, and the respect between swimmers nationwide was unmatched. Among the 150-plus YMCAs from across the country that were represented, LEHY swimmers, once again, made their mark.
"The swimmers who were there for the first time swam amazing with best times all over the place. And the veterans showed them how it was done!" reported LEHY swim coach Kaeley Steinnagel.
There were over 1,300 swimmers competing this summer, and LEHY swimmers were placing in some of the top spots.

Jeffersonville, IN – Back in 2002, the Little League World Series was an exciting outcome for a Louisville, KY area team known as Valley Youth Sports, as they used power and pitching to take the title.
The 2008 version of the famous tournament includes another Louisville area team. Except this time it’s a team right across the Ohio River in Jeffersonville, IN. The Jeffersonville/George Rogers Clark All-Stars to be exact.
This team is coming off a dramatic 11 inning win in the Great Lakes Region that solidified their shot to go to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, which is where the Little League World Series is held annually.
YouthSportsFix.com, which is based out of Louisville, would like to wish these talented ballplayers good luck on their trip and hope they can make us proud. Bring back the trophy!

Palmetto, FL - Damian Copeland paid his own way to attend quite a few of the one-day elite camps that have become popular among the college football programs during the summer.
It may turn out to be the best money the Palmetto High receiver ever spent. The 6-foot, 175-pound senior wooed coaches with his speed and came home with a couple of offers and promises others would follow.
But the senior doesn't see any reason to wait. He fell in love with Louisville and on Sunday morning, he called head coach Steve Kragthorpe and told him he was going to be a Cardinal.
Copeland hopes to finish his high school graduation requirements in December and enroll at Louisville so he can be ready for spring practice.
